Terms of Service

Last updated: 25 May 2026Effective from: 25 May 2026

1. Overview

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Oil Team ("we", "us", "our"). They explain who can use the service, what you can and cannot do with it, what we are responsible for, and what we are not.

By creating an account, registering for an event, or playing in one of our tournaments, you confirm that you have read these Terms, that you accept them, and that you meet the eligibility requirements below.

These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal information. They supplement, and do not replace, the terms of Valve Corporation (Steam), Discord Inc., and Facepunch Studios (Rust), which continue to apply to your use of those services. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of those companies.

2. Eligibility

By creating an account, registering for an event, or participating in any tournament hosted on Oil Team, you confirm that:

  • you are at least 16 years old, or older if a higher minimum age applies to you under the law of your country or to your right to play Rust;
  • you have a valid Steam account that you personally own and that is in good standing with Valve;
  • you have the right and authority to enter into these Terms, including any parental or guardian consent that may be required in your jurisdiction;
  • you are not located in, ordinarily resident in, or a national of a country subject to comprehensive economic sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or the United Nations, and you are not on any applicable sanctions list;
  • you have not previously been permanently banned from Oil Team.

We may decline to provide the service, refuse any registration, decline any team or roster, reject any change request, or close any account, at our discretion and with or without giving a reason. Nothing in this paragraph affects rights you have under applicable law (including consumer-protection and anti-discrimination rules) or the rights described in our Privacy Policy.

3. Your account

You create a Oil Team account by signing in with Steam. You may optionally link a Discord account.

  • You are responsible for everything that happens through your account. Keep your Steam credentials secure and do not share them with anyone.
  • You may not create or use an account on behalf of someone else, share your account, or use someone else's account. A single person may not maintain multiple Oil Team accounts without our prior written permission.
  • The display name shown for your account is derived from your Steam persona name, the in-game name a team captain provided during registration, your Discord display name, or a moderator-set override, in that order of priority.
  • You agree to provide accurate information when registering for events and to keep that information up to date.
  • You can request deletion of your account from your account settings, subject to the constraints described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to do any of the following, and not to allow or encourage anyone else to do so on your behalf:

  • use cheats, hacks, scripts, exploits, or third-party software that confers an unfair advantage in any event hosted on Oil Team;
  • manipulate, fix, or otherwise interfere with the outcome of a match, the integrity of statistics, or the placement of any player or team on a leaderboard;
  • harass, threaten, intimidate, dox, sexually solicit, or discriminate against any other person, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic;
  • impersonate any person or organisation, including Oil Team staff, or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone;
  • upload, share, or display content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, infringes intellectual property rights, or contains malware or links to it;
  • use automated tools, scripts, scrapers, or bots to access the service, except for our own published APIs used in accordance with the rate limits and authorisation we provide;
  • probe, scan, or attempt to bypass our security or access controls, or test the vulnerability of the service without our prior written authorisation;
  • use the service in a way that disrupts or imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure or anyone else’s use of it;
  • use the service to violate any law applicable to you, including the terms of service of Valve, Discord, or Facepunch Studios;
  • use the service for any commercial purpose we have not authorised, including reselling access to it or to data obtained from it.

5. Tournaments and events

When you register for or take part in an event on Oil Team:

  • you agree to follow the event-specific rules published on the event page in addition to these Terms; where the event rules conflict with these Terms, the event rules apply to that event;
  • you agree to be checked in and ready to play at the times the event requires; if you fail to check in or to show up, you may be removed, forfeit your match, or be marked as a no-show;
  • roster changes must be submitted through the channels we provide; last-minute or unauthorised substitutions may not be accepted and may result in disqualification;
  • match results, statistics, ranks, and leaderboard positions are calculated from match events and from the rulesets configured for each event; where data is missing, ambiguous, or disputed, the staff running the event may make a final determination based on the evidence available;
  • decisions made by Oil Team staff in their administrative capacity — including decisions about check-in, disputes, disqualifications, and ban appeals — are final unless we announce a specific appeals process for an event;
  • where an event involves prizes or rewards, the specific terms of those prizes (eligibility, taxes, exclusions) will be set out on the event page or in separate official rules.

By registering for or playing in an event on Oil Team you confirm that you are at least 16 years old.

6. Teams and rosters

  • If you are a team captain, you are responsible for the team’s registration, roster, conduct, and compliance with these Terms and the event rules. You must only register people who have agreed to play on your team.
  • If you are a team member, you are responsible for your own conduct under these Terms regardless of what your captain or teammates do or say.
  • Teams and team members must not collude across teams, arrange match outcomes in advance, or take any other action that compromises the integrity of competition.
  • If your SteamID has been added to a team roster without your authorisation, you can ask us to remove it — see the Privacy Policy for how to contact us.

7. Public competition and leaderboards

Oil Team is a public competitive platform. By creating an account or participating in our events, you understand and accept that certain information about you and your team will be published on the service and visible to the public, including to search engines. The information we publish, and the controls available to you over it, are described in section 5 of the Privacy Policy.

8. Content you provide

When you submit team names, team tags, in-game names, bios, event descriptions, change requests, or any other content (“User Content”):

  • You confirm that you have the right to submit it and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
  • You grant Oil Team a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable licence to host, store, reproduce, modify (for example, by resizing images), publish, display, and distribute that content for the purposes of operating, providing, improving, and promoting the service. The licence ends when the content is removed from the service, except where the content has been shared with other users who retain copies or where we are required to keep it for backup, legal, or security reasons.
  • You are solely responsible for your User Content, and you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim that arises out of it (see section 13).
  • We may remove or refuse to publish any User Content we believe in good faith breaches these Terms, the event rules, or applicable law, and we may do so without notice.

9. Moderation, suspension, and termination

We may take any of the following actions if we believe in good faith that you have breached these Terms, the rules of an event, or applicable law, or that doing so is necessary to protect the service, other users, or third parties:

  • issue a warning;
  • remove or edit User Content, including team names, tags, and display names;
  • disqualify you or your team from an event and adjust or forfeit the related results, statistics, or prizes;
  • temporarily suspend or restrict your access to features of the service;
  • permanently ban you from the service, including from participating in any future event;
  • refer information to law enforcement, Valve, Discord, or another third party where we believe that is appropriate.

When we take a moderation action against you, we will, where practical and lawful, give you a brief statement of the reason and information about how to appeal. Where a statement of reasons is required by law (including the EU Digital Services Act), we will provide one.

You may also end your relationship with us at any time by deleting your account. Termination does not relieve either of us of obligations that accrued before it, and the provisions of these Terms that by their nature are intended to survive termination (including sections 8 to 15) will continue to apply.

10. Intellectual property

The service — including its source code, design, layout, text, graphics, logos, and the Oil Team name — is owned by Oil Team or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright, trade mark, and other intellectual property laws. Except for User Content and the limited licence granted to you to use the service, no rights are transferred to you. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, publish, sell, license, or create derivative works of any part of the service without our prior written permission.

Rust is a trade mark of Facepunch Studios. Steam is a trade mark of Valve Corporation. Discord is a trade mark of Discord Inc. These trade marks are used here only to describe the platforms we integrate with.

If you believe content on the service infringes your copyright, contact us at the address in section 16 with (a) identification of the copyrighted work, (b) identification of the material you say is infringing, (c) your contact information, (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised, and (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the rightsholder or authorised to act for them.

11. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, free of viruses or other harmful components, or that results obtained from using it will be accurate, complete, or reliable.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the service complies with the rules and terms of any third-party platform or game it integrates with, including Steam and Rust.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Oil Team and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, and agents will not be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, opportunity, or other intangible losses arising out of or in connection with the service or these Terms, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of those damages.

To the extent that liability cannot lawfully be excluded but can be limited, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the service or these Terms is limited to one hundred US dollars (US $100).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits: our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence; our liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you. If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, your statutory rights are not affected by these Terms.

13. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Oil Team and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, and agents from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) that arises out of or relates to: (a) your use of the service; (b) your User Content; (c) your breach of these Terms or any event-specific rules; or (d) your infringement of any third-party right, including any intellectual property or privacy right. If you are a consumer, this section only applies to the extent permitted by the law that applies to you.

14. Third-party services

The service integrates with Valve Corporation (Steam) and Discord Inc., and you play the underlying game published by Facepunch Studios (Rust). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and policies, including:

We are not responsible for those services or for any action or omission of those third parties. If a third-party service changes in a way that affects the service, we may need to change or discontinue features.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes), are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Oil Team is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

For users outside the EU and UK. You and we agree to attempt to resolve any dispute informally first by contacting us using the details in section 16. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally within 30 days, it will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the jurisdiction in which Oil Team is established.

For consumers in the EU and UK. Nothing in this section deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you have your habitual residence. You may bring proceedings under these Terms in the courts of the country where you live, and you keep the protection of the consumer-protection laws of that country regardless of the choice of governing law above.

16. How to contact us

If you have a question about these Terms, or want to report a breach of them:

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the service, the law, or our practices. When we make a material change we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, announce the change in our Discord server, and where appropriate ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in. If you do not agree to a new version, you must stop using the service. Continued use after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms.

18. General

  • Reservation of rights. We may refuse to provide the service, refuse any registration or application, decline any roster or request, suspend any feature, or close any account at our discretion and with or without giving a reason. This does not affect any right you have under applicable law or under the Privacy Policy.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any event-specific rules we publish form the entire agreement between you and us about the service.
  • Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
  • Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights under them. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets.
  • No partnership. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship.
  • Force majeure. We will not be liable for any delay or failure to perform caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages of third-party services, network failures, denial-of-service attacks, governmental actions, or natural events.
  • Notices. We may give you notice through the service, by in-app message, or through our Discord server.
  • Language. These Terms are written in English. If we provide a translation, the English version controls in the event of any inconsistency, except where the law of your country requires otherwise.

These Terms of Service should be read together with our Privacy Policy. Use of Oil Team is governed by both documents.
